Gas Free Inspection & Gas Measurement Services
In the transportation and handling of petroleum, natural gas, chemicals and other hazardous cargoes, maintaining safe atmospheric conditions is essential before carrying out maintenance, repair, cleaning, hot work and other activities in tanks, vessels, barges, pipelines and enclosed spaces where flammable, explosive or toxic atmospheres may be present.
MP International Inspection provides Gas Free Certificate and atmospheric gas measurement services following the required preparation, ventilation, gas-freeing procedures, atmospheric measurements and safety checks.
Upon completion of the required inspections and measurements, Gas Free Certification services are provided for tanks, vessels, barges, pipelines and other enclosed spaces where the applicable acceptance criteria have been met.
Gas Free Inspection Services
Atmospheric assessment and verification are essential before maintenance, repair, hot work, cold work, tank cleaning, pipeline work and other activities carried out on vessels, barges, tanks and enclosed spaces.
Our Gas Free Inspection services may include:
- Assessment of the general condition of the work area and enclosed space
- Verification of ventilation and gas-freeing arrangements
- Atmospheric gas measurements
- Evaluation of gas concentrations
- Verification of working conditions against applicable procedures and requirements
- Recording and reporting of measurement results
We also provide inspection and gas-free supervision services for oil tankers, chemical tankers, gas carriers and LNG carriers, including pre-loading preparation, discharge operations, tank conditioning and gas-freeing activities.
Gas Measurement & Atmospheric Monitoring
Atmospheric parameters are monitored according to the nature and requirements of each operation.
Where applicable, measurements may include:
- Oxygen (O₂) concentration
- Flammable and explosive gases (LEL)
- Toxic gases
- VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds)
- Evaluation of gas concentrations
- Pressure and temperature checks
- Dew point measurements where required
Based on the final measurements and assessment, the atmospheric condition of the relevant tank or enclosed space is evaluated against the specified operational criteria, and the results are documented in an inspection report.
Gas Free Certificate
Gas Free Certificate inspections are carried out by appropriately trained and experienced personnel in accordance with the measurement and inspection requirements applicable to the operation.
We use multi-gas detection instruments suitable for the specific operational requirements.
Depending on the scope of work, oxygen, flammable gases and VOCs, together with other relevant atmospheric parameters, can be measured simultaneously to assess the atmospheric condition of the work environment.
Tank Gas-Free Operations
Gas-freeing a tank before maintenance, cleaning, inspection, repair, installation or personnel entry requires careful planning, appropriate ventilation and atmospheric monitoring.
Tanks that may contain flammable, explosive or toxic atmospheres present significant risks, including fire, explosion, oxygen deficiency and exposure to hazardous gases. Appropriate risk assessment and safety checks should therefore be completed before work begins.
We provide gas-free inspection and atmospheric monitoring services for shipowners, operators, facility owners and contractors involved in a wide range of tank-related operations.
Depending on the scope of the operation, our services may include:
- Gas-free checks before and after cargo transfer
- Tank maintenance and repair operations
- Tank-top construction and installation activities
- Solid and liquid waste cleaning operations
- Fuel change and tank preparation
- Tank decommissioning activities
- Tank cleaning and maintenance operations
- On-site improvement and maintenance work
- Verification of mechanical and operational preparations before work
Atmospheric Monitoring & Personnel Safety
Gas and oxygen levels are monitored at appropriate intervals according to the nature and risk level of the operation.
For enclosed-space work and operations where hazardous atmospheres may be present, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection should be used in accordance with the applicable work procedures and risk assessment.
Because atmospheric conditions may change during an operation, continuous or periodic gas monitoring may be applied where required.
Risk Assessment & Operational Safety
Operations involving flammable, explosive or toxic substances require appropriate training, experience and careful planning.
Each operation is assessed according to its specific characteristics, including the work area, cargo or residues present, atmospheric conditions, activities to be performed and personnel involved.
Our objective is to provide independent technical inspection and measurement services to support the identification of potential atmospheric hazards, verification of required measurements and confirmation of the specified safe working conditions before work begins.
Safety First
Prevention is better than dealing with the consequences afterwards.
